AquaSaver Shampoo Nozzle

So everyone is going green these days. Most people think its really expensive and what good it will do them, especially in a salon setting. Well check this out! Water is a precious commodity, most communities are on conservation plans because there just isn't enough H2O to go around. Well with the Aquasaver, by Mizutani you can conserve up to 65% of the water you use, all the while having an awesome nozzle with 256 pinholes (as opposed to the normal 50). This means better pressure when washing hair and results in a finer spray, making less mess and keeping faces dryer. Saving money and going green has never been easier...

Sabino Moisture Block

I had some inspiration today. Since it's been a very humid fall, I've been recommending something for my frizzy fashionista's... MOISTURE BLOCK. @LockandMane on twitter brought it up again on twitter this fine drizzly morning, so of course, I'm on here writing about it.

The nice thing about moisture block, is that it actually waterproofs hair. It doesn't "claim" to either, it has dimethicone and cyclomethicone included in the ingredients. Together, these ingredients combine to block humidity, creating a shield that leaves hair smooth and shiny. I've used this on everything from fine Caucasian, to course Ethnic hair, and get great results every time. My only suggestion for this product would be this, LESS IS MORE, the silicone in this product can build up overtime, so you will need a good clarifying shampoo and moisturizing mask as your hair will need to rehydrate after being sealed up. Long term use helps prevent breakage, and you'll soon start to LOVE your hair! This is a perfect solution for clients who don't fell like going with a chemical straightener. It may take a little more work in the long run, but is totally worth it in the amount of damage you'll be saving yourself!

Check out Moisture Block for only $7.45 for 3oz (should last 3-6 months depending on length of hair) on Amazon.

T3 Bespoke Evolution Hair Dryer

At $300 retail, you may ask, why would I EVER pay that much for a hairdryer... I've had my T3 for a little over 4 years, I use it almost every day multiple times a day, and it just broke. Seriously, I've had friends who are stylists that have gone through, 2 -3 hair dryers in a year. They usually spend a little more than $100 dollars for a dryer. Do the math, great hair dryer that last for four years now that's a no-brainer... here are some of the features:
  • 2000 watt power in a 13.5oz lightweight, efficient design
  • Generates Tourmaline negative ions and infrared heat technology for 60% faster drying. The only dryer with a true ceramic heater coil
  • Eliminates frizzy, "blow dried" look
  • Negative ions add moisture and sheen.
  • 2 speed settings, 4 heat settings plus cool shot and ionized concentrator.
As you can see, pretty amazing stuff packed into a lightwight dryer. The best part about my situation is that I found it on Amazon for 1/3 the price only $100.50. That is cheaper than what I can get it for at the beauty supply house. At least now I know I can replace mine and save a bundle too. Check it out at http://j.mp/1IIBI5.

Also pick this up when you get your new T3, it's made out of carbon (plastic ones melt) and fits perfectly onto your dryer! http://j.mp/yhI84

The Art of Shaving

I'm going to veer away from my normal hair care post for a second and talk about something I've never really enjoyed before... SHAVING. For most guys, it's a necessary evil. We don't want to do it, but have to in order to keep looking good. About a month ago, I was invited to join a friend at a benefit in Washington DC for Fashion Fights Poverty. Not only was the event fabulous, and a who's who of the DC style scene, but in our gift bags, was something worth mentioning. The Art of Shaving provided a hypoallergenic starter kit.

I was so excited when I saw this, being in the hair industry, I get exposed to COUNTLESS products. The only thing I really liked in my quest for cool shave products, was American Crew shave oil. Now don't get me wrong, American Crew makes AMAZING products, but The Art of Shaving LIVES facial hair! I've read about it and heard other people that use it, they weren't kidding about this stuff!

The Art of Shaving teaches the 4 elements of a perfect shave:
1. Prepare
2. Lather Up (the brush makes all the difference)
3. Shave
4. Moisturize

Each of these steps is vital and crucial to a perfect shave, since I started shaving, I really just threw on some shaving cream and did it as fast as possible. After watching the video and realizing I could turn from a chore into a chance to pamper myself, I really do follow the steps and LOVE the results. No ingrown hairs, No razor burn, nice soft skin... a man couldn't ask for more after a nice hot shower. After every other shave, I use my Nuskin home Galvanic machine. WOW now that is an amazing combo! Smooth skin that feels tighter and younger!

This company has done some amazing work for mens skin/beard care, including having spa locations that men can get pampered in, online shopping, and a full line of razors (both straight and safety to choose from). I'm booking myself an appointment to get a royal shave ASAP. I don't get a chance to pamper myself that often, but doing the research for this has gotten me really excited, and I hope you enjoy The Art of Shaving as much as I do.

Since I'm almost finished using of the tester pack, I'm going to try their Sandalwood line. Ladies, don't you fret either! They have a women's line as well. Get in on this ASAP, you'll thank me later.

Greg May Product Thick with Attitude

Here is another favorite from Greg May Product. Thick with Attitude is a cream based thickening agent, that gives hair an awesome beachy tousled feel. I've used this on almost all my long haired clients for an awesome blow out, or even diffused for an easier "lived in" look that cut down frizz. The curlier the hair the better the client liked the product, they compare the feel to something BETTER than CURLS ROCK, saying that they got a softer bounce with better wave/curl definition with this, than other texture products. Highly recommended, check out Greg May on twitter @gregmayhair

Social media and branding increase buisness

I've been sitting here thinking, WOW! I can't get over how busy I am... I finally got some free time and went over my numbers for the month, this has been my busiest month yet. I checked my webstats, and the number of people visiting my business sites has been steadily increasing month after month after month! It's amazing what a little BRANDING (thanks Chatter Creative!) can do! I was advised by Chatter to brand myself, and boy they weren't kidding! I've got everything from a blog now, to twitter (both personal~@tjpoisal and professional~@hairontheside), etc.

I can't stress enough how good design and integration of your brand into your web presence really has a positive effect on your online image, and business. Branding and social media take you that next step from being a mom and pop operation into a serious contender. Think of it this way... would you rather do business from someone who doesn't take pride in the way they run things, and is just kinda "there" waiting for things to happen? OR from someone who's got their act together and is proactive about making their business grow?

Social media is an integral part of building your business. For example, Twitter was made to spread ideas right? 20% of tweets refer to businesses/brands. Out of that, think of all the people who follow up on those tweets and check out the information BEHIND the brand. All it takes is a little ingenuity, and good design to take your business to the next level. I may be a small business, but I look and feel like a good solid corporation. Check me out @ Hair on the Side
and @ Nuskin .

The Nuskin Home Galvanic Spa

Almost six months ago, a dear friend called. She told me about this revolutionary new skincare device that would change the way people took care of their skin. Normally I think "yeah right... SCAM!". But I've known her for years and I love new toys, so I told her to send me some information. After reading up on this lovely little machine, and doing some internet research, I told her to send me one to try. All it took was one time and I knew I was hooked. Between my skin looking more radiant than I can ever recall, diminished pore size, tighter and smoother skin, and less oily skin; I was floored. I knew this was going to be HUGE! Since I started using Nuskin, I tell all my clients about it. I show them before and after photos of clients who have gone galvanic, and the response has been amazing! Nuskin is coming out with a new line of skin care that includes their exclusive AgeLoc serum. Check out this site for more information on galvanic, Ageloc, and their AWESOME products! http://j.mp/2LoF29. They also have hair treatments, peels, shampoo, conditioner, and organic skin care!

Greg May's Peppermint Shampoo and Conditioner

I got introduced to Greg May through Twitter a couple months ago. We got to talking, and I saw that he had his own product line. Of course this peaked my interest... last week he sent me some of his line to try out! Let me just tell you, I have tried (and sold) more shampoo than I can think of. Personally, during the change of seasons, I find my scalp goes crazy! It almost looks like a small snow storm on my shoulders, my scalp itches like no tomorrow, and I end up piling on "scalp conditioners" for ten minutes or more.

Greg May Peppermint Shampoo and Conditioner is AWESOME... Being a guy, I usually use pastes/gels/clays/hairspray/etc. Normally to get this gunk out, I need two shampoo's. All I needed was one shampoo with this. It didn't make my hair feel like it was stripped at all. As for my scalp, I let the conditioner sit for about five minutes. NORMALLY with other tea tree/mint products, my scalp feels like it is going to freeze off or I get an Icy Hot sensastion. Peppermint Conditioner just had a pleasant cooling sensation, no freezing, and no pain!

I got to chatting with Greg about the Peppermint line. I found out that the shampoo can also be used as a body wash (LOVE IT!) and you can also shave with the conditioner as well... let me just say this. My male clients LOVE this on their neck when I finish them with a straight razor neck shave. It keeps their neck from getting irritated from the razor and give the haircut a smooth crisp finish.

Check out Greg May at www.gregmayhair.com. You can order anything from his full line of products here. Thanks Greg for introducing me to a great line of products that work wonderfully*!

*wait until I tell you all how well his thickening cream works!
